A Murmur of Moonshadow: The Stars Are Right

Of the abominations within the catacombs, a great many have speculated as to their origin. Beings of flesh and stone, monstrosities of bone and vine. Where did such things spring from? Such curiosity is, perhaps, our most insideous killer.

The first survey team returned with promising results; they had followed and slain a few of the creatures and bought back samples. A stone writhing with flesh, a vine with a heart of bone and an eye sunken into a slab. Of these curiosities it was soon realised, after the loss of the vine, that none could pass the wards and thus an impromptu lab was set up outside the safety of the wards.

They came silently at first, at least as silently as such abominations can. Their foetid odour first alerted the curious scholars to their presence; however by then it was too late. The chanting began and, above, it was noted that several stars flared to unnatural brightness for a brief moment. Below far more dire changes had come to pass; of the research party none were left whole, and those left alive screamed and screamed as the melding of their dismembered bodies with stone and vine tore apart what remained of their dying sanity.
