In a world as harsh as Moonshadow one may think its denizens void of affection. This is not entirely so, for while many creatures here eat their young, some seek to nurture them. So it is with the eight legged titans that stalk the treetops amidst their gossamer webs.
The deceptive spider hides among the treetops, waiting carefully. Once it has its prey in sight, the prospective mother quickly seeks to separate it from any pack by perfectly imitating the cries of its prey's young, regardless of whether it has heard such a cry. Once separated a sting is administered creating total paralysis, while preserving life.
Once trapped the prey is hoisted up into the trees on silver webs; it is then that the spider calls for a mate, quickly laying its eggs upon the moving eyes of its captive nursemaid. These eggs hatch in a matter of days, first consuming the eyes, tongue... and other soft parts of the body, before flesh is picked from bone, life held captive until the last possible moment. Such a loving mother no?
