The arboreal nightmares that infest this place are as numerous as they are insidious. And, while under the thick canopy, one finds these horrors to be primarily fungous in nature, there are other forms of corrupted flora that mark the forest clearings as worthy of aversion.
The violaceous briar is as brightly hued as its name suggests, save its thorns, which are a deep crimson. These briars grow as thick as a man's leg, clustered tightly under the open lunae glow. The mists that usually cloak the forest lie low at their base, a slow drifting movement noticeable, even when no wind stirs.
These briars are the well fed ones; their smaller, hungrier, spawn being almost unnoticeable in the patches of lunae light that dot the forest clearings. Yet, once unwary prey comes close, a thorn snags, is torn off, and the writing white roots beneath quickly seek out warm flesh. Once they find it, the growth is rapid. This rapacious rapidity is, perhaps, no great comfort to the unfortunate victim, at least if one lingers to listen to their anguished cries as roots sup upon blood, and crimson thorns protrude.
